I brainstormed several different ideas for my podcasts. As an art teacher I wanted to use lots of artwork, I wanted to record students responses to artwork and I wanted to find a way to use the podcasts to integrate art across the curriculum. I decided the first two audio podcasts would focus on poetry and art. I knew that the 3rd grade students were currently learning about poetry. I spoke with the teacher about having the students visualize the poems they were reading in art class. Since it was December, I thought that a holiday related poem would be perfect for creating large-scale artwork designed and painted by the students to display around the school. I used a poem by children's poet, Shel Silverstein "Christmas Dog" which seem to be perfect for the children to illustrate.
Since I only meet with my 3rd grade students twice a week for 30 minutes each time, I decided to let my 6th grade art students collaborate on the project. The younger students created smaller, individual drawings and paintings, while my older students worked together to produce large-scale 36" x 48" tempera paintings. I wanted the podcast to feature a student reading the poem, record the brainstorming process and to show each of the paintings created.
Instead of a detailed script, I wrote a general outline of how I wanted my podcasts:

Reflection on Planning the Podcasts
Fromthe beginning I had several ideas of what I wanted to produce for my podcasts. Keeping in mind that this could be a prolonged process, I tried to keep my ideas simple. I didn't write a scirpt as was first suggested because I thought that was unrealistic with the demonds on my time teaching. I instead wrote a general outline and recorded the podcast with that in mind. I beleive it made the interview feel more authentic and less staged.
